Mandibular hypoplasias or Class II

The jaws can present different alterations.
There are alterations in shape, alterations in size and alterations in the relationship between the maxilla and mandible.

When the mandible is further back or is frankly smaller than the maxilla, we can say that we are in the presence of a mandibular class II or mandibular hypoplasia.
This alteration of proportion and size results in a series of problems or functional alterations.

Problems associated with class II:

  • bruxism
  • joint pain
  • Pain in the facial muscles
  • Pain in the neck muscles
  • Earache
  • Noises in the joint area
  • dental wear
  • dental fractures
  • headaches
  • Noise in the jaw joints
  • osteoarthritis in the temporomandibular joints
  • Respiratory problems associated with the lack of space for the passage of air
  • Snoring
  • Poor sleep quality. unrefreshing sleep

All these alterations should be evaluated by your surgeon and orthodontist. They have treatment and their quality of life can improve substantially.
